Breast Anatomy

Anatomy of the breast

Fatty Tissue: Shown in yellow in diagrams, fatty tissue largely determines the size of your breasts.

Glandular Tissue: The milk-making powerhouse! It resembles tiny bunches of grapes, with each "grape" (alveolus) filling with milk. These contract to send milk through thin ducts to the multiple openings in your nipples.

Fun Fact: Glandular tissue starts developing during puberty. More is added with every pregnancy and through breastfeeding, creating a unique milk-making system tailored just for your baby.

While you can’t know how much glandular tissue you have, your body is designed to make milk for your baby. Need support or have questions? LLLC is here for you!
